About The Health Insider

The Health Insider (THI) is a Canadian digital health media platform delivering timely, evidence-based content and practical health resources to healthcare consumers navigating a rapidly shifting system. With a growing subscriber base and editorial footprint, THI serves as a trusted voice for patients, caregivers, and advocates.

We are currently seeking a creative, health-literate freelance Social Media Content Producer/Manager to manage and grow our daily presence across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn. This individual must be capable of translating health content into engaging, platform-specific media that resonates with a wide demographic spectrum—from Gen Z to the Silent Generation.

Project Overview

The selected contractor will be responsible for developing, scheduling, and posting engaging social media content daily—both tied to The Health Insider’s editorial calendar and as standalone responsive pieces aligned with emerging trends, public conversations, or breaking health news.

Candidates will also be expected to review our existing social media channels and propose a practical and creative strategy for elevating our presence, impact, and engagement. This strategic proposal will be a key part of the selection process.

Scope of Work

Daily content creation and posting:

  • Repurpose THI editorial content into compelling visual/video formats
  • Develop original, responsive content tied to seasonal, trending, or urgent health topics
  • Write compelling captions and optimize hashtags where relevant
  • Maintain consistent visual identity using Canva or similar tools

Community Engagement

  • Monitor engagement and suggest iterative improvements
  • Respond to comments and messages, and foster community interaction.
  • Identify and build relationships with relevant influencers and thought leaders.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Track, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations for optimization.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the editorial team to align content with current articles, campaigns, and projects.
  • Coordinate with marketing to ensure consistency of messaging across channels.

Strategic Proposal Requirement

All applicants are asked to:

  1. Review our current social media presence (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn)
  2. Provide a short strategic summary (max 1 page) that answers:
    • What’s working / what’s not?
    • How would you improve consistency, reach, or engagement?
    • What unique approaches would you bring to our brand?
    • What would your first 30 days look like?

We’re looking for creativity, platform fluency, and insight into how a small health media brand can punch above its weight online.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing social media for a brand, media outlet, or health-focused platform
  • Strong visual storytelling and short-form video editing skills (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Reels/TikTok editors)
  • Deep understanding of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn content trends and algorithms.
  • Strong creative skills in video editing, graphic design, and copywriting.
  • Ability to adapt content for various audiences (from Millennials to Boomers)
  • Knowledge of Canadian healthcare issues, wellness trends, and patient needs
  • Comfortable translating scientific or medical content into accessible, engaging formats
  • Reliable, deadline-driven, and available for 5–7 posts per week
  • Ability to work independently while integrating seamlessly into a team.

Proposal Requirements

Please submit the following:

  • A brief letter of interest (max 500 words)
  • Resume or short bio
  • Links to recent social media accounts or campaigns you’ve managed
  • Your proposed monthly retainer or rate
  • Your 1-page strategic review and proposal
  • Two references (optional but preferred)

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Demonstrated creative and strategic thinking: Quality of past work and results achieved.
  • Fluency in platform-specific content creation
  • Understanding of health and wellness communication
  • Ability to post regularly and independently
  • Thoughtful and specific strategic proposal
